Why is important to have HIGH visibility for your business online?

Creative vs. Directional Advertising

Creative Advertising

There are only two types of advertising: creative and directional. Creative advertising such as TV, radio, billboards and the newspaper is used when the Seller is seeking a Buyer. This form of advertising attempts to create awareness, interest and desire for that product or service. With this type of advertising, the seller does not know who is ready to buy. They target an audience with the hope that prospective buyers will hear or see this message and act upon that message.  **In addition this type of advertising can be very expensive and cost prohibitive for many small businesses.

Directional Advertising

Directional advertising, such as the internet reaches consumers when they are ready to buy and actually directs them to your business when they are looking for a particular product or service! The distinct advantage here is that the Buyer is seeking out the Seller. The internet delivers buyers! The internet is available 24 / 7 when your prospects are ready to buy! The internet allows you to be visible when a prospective client / customer is looking for you by typing in the keyword or phrase they need help with.

The internet lends itself very similar to the way the yellow pages used to work in that most people who go to the internet don’t have a company or firm in mind. These type of purchases are normally for emergency buyers, infrequent buyers, first time buyers, or major purchase buyers. In other words because these purchases are not normal everyday purchases, most people don’t have someone in mind to help them. That is why they are going to the internet and researching their particular problem or need online.

Some examples of these types of purchases would be:

The need for an attorney for a DUI, car accident, divorce / family law issue, or social security disability law issue as a few examples, etc…

The need for a plumber due to a water emergency like a broken pipe or faucet, or a major purchase such as a new basement remodeling project that calls for a new bathroom to be installed.

The need for a pest control service due to ant or mice infestation.

The need for emergency tree service caused by a major storm.

The need for a local HVAC – heating and air conditioning company because the heating or cooling has gone out during extreme temperatures.

The need for a fence installation company to install a new fence to help keep a new family pet safe in the backyard.

The need for a local garage door company because my garage door will not open!

The list can go on and on…

The internet works GREAT for professional and home services businesses. However, the internet can also work great for any business that needs to be seen and found online when a prospective client / customer is specifically looking for that particular product or service.

If you build a WEBSITE RIGHT – they will come!

Many industry online marketing companies and yellow page companies treat you and your project like an assembly line. After meeting with the salesperson or marketing consultant, you are then handed over to the “factory”, you deal with one person as a project manager, one for design, one for content, and then even another for search engine optimization.  The problem with this process is that sometimes everyone is not on the same page.  For an effective marketing strategy to work, everyone must be on the same page and everyone must understand EXACTLY what the end goal is.  When you work with us, we don’t treat you like a number.  SEO and proper search engine optimization is an art and a science.  We make sure that everyone is working in concert to deliver an end result that will do one thing – produce RESULTS!!

What is SEO?

SEO is the practice of promoting a website in order to increase the number of visitors the site receives from search engines naturally or organically. SEO is the art and science of achieving natural or organic results in the search engines.  The major search engines are: Google, Yahoo, and Bing – with Google being the most used search engine.

Please see an example below.

I did a Google search for a plumber:

What are the factors to rank well in Google and the search engines?? You can learn more here.

There also two ways to rank within Google organically. First, there are the Google+ page listings. These are commonly known as the A-F listings, or A, B, C, etc… Please see an example below:

How do you rank well in Google maps, or within the Google+ pages?

First, you need to KNOW how to optimize your Google + page.

Second you need to work on your NAP – name, address, phone number consistency across the web.

What is NAP? What are citations? Why do they matter? You can learn more here.

You can see one more example below:

Second, are the natural or organic listings within Google.

Please see an example below:

**Please note in this search example there are NOT any Google+ page listings shown. Also note the PPC ads to the top and left they have a yellow marker next to them that say Ad.

So, how do get TOP ranking, or rank well in the search engines?

There are a LOT of things that go into it, but at a high level it is about website architecture, content, and website linking (who your website links to and from).

  • Google, Yahoo, & Bing Place Page Optimization.
  • On-Site Optimization – this is how your website is structured with proper title tags, H1 headers and content among other things.
  • Content – Unique content that will help the end user find what they are looking for.
  • Off-Site Optimization – The links and quality of the places/links your website appears and is found on the internet.  These are the places your website links to and from.

You can also learn more here and here

The keys to a successful website and internet marketing are:

1)    Visibility – a website that has a ton of useful content and information is useful to no one unless it is highly visible on the search engines; Google, Yahoo, Bing, etc…

You also want to be seen and found in ALL the major directories. In addition to this NAP (name, address and phone number) consistency across the internet helps you rank better in Google and the search engines.

How do you get visibility IN Google and the search engines?

There are two factors.

  • The first is On Page Factors / Optimization

I won’t go into ALL of the details, but at a high level it is all about CONTENT and how well your website is set up with GOOD On Page website optimization.  This link below explains the basic factors of good on page website optimization –

  • The second is Off Site Optimization

If you have good On Site Optimization, and you are better or equal than your competition, then HOW do you outrank them?  Well, Google ranks things the same way we do popularity (LINKS!). Who else do you associate with, who else do you do business with, etc…  Google judges these factors by the QUALITY not quantity of the other places on the internet your website is found.

However linking isn’t THIS EASY!! Google rates the quality of the links and how well they relate to that keyword or phrase the person is typing into the Google Search Bar.  Please learn more @

2)    Design – Design is used to convert the visitor into a CLIENT!

At the end of the day you don’t care how many views or website visits your website got.  You CARE about how many people HIRED you.  How many customers did you get, etc…  We are going to create a design that showcases how you can help people and your experience!!

3)    CONTENT – Content is used to convert the visitor into a CLIENT!

OK, so far we have gotten you visible online (most important, without this design and content don’t matter), we have created a design that conveys the image to show (a picture says a thousand words) the prospective buyer that YOUR COMPANY is the Company that can help them, etc…  Now we need to back up the design with content.

**We need to tell and show the public all the ways you can help them, and why they should choose you!

These are called the RASCIL factors from the old phone book days…

Reliability: Many people who see your ad in the Yellow Pages have never heard of you before. The greater the price of what you’re selling, the more important it is to stress reliable and quality in your ad.

Appropriate copy might include:

  • Years in business;
  • The size of your business;
  • Family and/or locally owned
  • Licensed, bonded, insured,
  • Guarantees or warrantees
  • Association memberships
  • Special training and certifications

Authorized products and services: Thousands of dollars are spent promoting brand names. Hitchhike on that money by highlighting brand names you’re authorized to sell, service or repair.
Special Features: What separates you from the competition? The first question I ask a Yellow Pages advertiser is, “Why should someone call you instead of one of those other ads?” Often that gets me a blank stare, but eventually they come up with three to five things, the most important reasons why someone should do business with them instead of the competition.

Why should someone call you instead of one of your competitors?

Completeness of service: Yellow Pages readers are drawn to ads that offer exactly what they’re seeking as well as by ads the offer a full range of relevant products and services. Include anything that’s a significant part of your business or you think can become a significant part of your business.

Appropriate copy might include:

  • The range or specialization of your products and services;
  • Departments;
  • Hours;
  • Credit cards;
  • Additional services that make doing business with your more appealing, e.g. free estimates, free consultations, evening appointments, insurance filing, valet parking, etc. etc.

Illustrations. The single easiest way to improve a mediocre ad is with a great illustration. If your picture isn’t worth a thousand words, find one that is. And make it large enough to generate the additional visibility your ad needs.

Location:  Many people use the Yellow Pages to find a convenient address. And some former customers will only remember where you are not who you are. Make sure you’re easy to find. If necessary, include a line of directional copy: “Behind McDonald’s.” If your location is more complicated than that, consider including a map. As for your phone number, make sure it’s large enough so that no matter when potential customers decide they’ve read enough of your great selling copy and they’re ready to call, they can spot it immediately.

If you build it they will come.

As Google says on its philosophy page, “Focus on the user and all else will follow.” Google wants webmasters to feel the same way — that if you build the best site possible, your good rankings will follow. This isn’t the answer that most webmasters want to hear. They want a few simple “tricks” that will rocket them to the top of the SERPs. Sorry, but it doesn’t work that way. Even if that were possible, twenty sites all employing the same tricks couldn’t all fit on the front page of Google.

People seek out our advice about search rankings because they know our sites rank well for a whole host of search phrases.

Why is SEO important?

If your website is NOT optimized correctly, you are losing money and potential clients / customers to competitors.

SEO brings traffic to your business. Please see below – this is a fence & deck company we help online.

The graph shows that of the 2,670 website visits from 2014, 1,152 were Google organic (43.15%), 164 were Bing organic visits (6.14%), and 143 were Yahoo organic visits (5.36%) – this represents over 54% of total website traffic. These number came directly from Google Analytics.

Results. SEO provides a GREAT ROI – return on investment!
