What is SEO?
SEO is the practice of promoting a website in order to increase the number of visitors the site receives from search engines naturally or organically. SEO is the art and science of achieving natural or organic results in the search engines. The major search engines are: Google, Yahoo, and Bing – with Google being the most used search engine.

So, how do get TOP ranking, or rank well in the search engines?
There are a LOT of things that go into it, but at a high level it is about website architecture, content, and website linking (who your website links to and from).
- Google, Yahoo, & Bing Place Page Optimization.
- On-Site Optimization – this is how your website is structured with proper title tags, H1 headers and content among other things.
- Content – Unique content that will help the end user find what they are looking for.
- Off-Site Optimization – The links and quality of the places/links your website appears and is found on the internet. These are the places your website links to and from.

1) Visibility – a website that has a ton of useful content and information is useful to no one unless it is highly visible on the search engines; Google, Yahoo, Bing, etc…
You also want to be seen and found in ALL the major directories. In addition to this NAP (name, address and phone number) consistency across the internet helps you rank better in Google and the search engines.
How do you get visibility IN Google and the search engines?
There are two factors.
- The first is On Page Factors / Optimization

- The second is Off Site Optimization
If you have good On Site Optimization, and you are better or equal than your competition, then HOW do you outrank them? Well, Google ranks things the same way we do popularity (LINKS!). Who else do you associate with, who else do you do business with, etc… Google judges these factors by the QUALITY not quantity of the other places on the internet your website is found.

2) Design – Design is used to convert the visitor into a CLIENT!
At the end of the day you don’t care how many views or website visits your website got. You CARE about how many people HIRED you. How many customers did you get, etc… We are going to create a design that showcases how you can help people and your experience!!
3) CONTENT – Content is used to convert the visitor into a CLIENT!

Reliability: Many people who see your ad in the Yellow Pages have never heard of you before. The greater the price of what you’re selling, the more important it is to stress reliable and quality in your ad.
Appropriate copy might include:
- Years in business;
- The size of your business;
- Family and/or locally owned
- Licensed, bonded, insured,
- Guarantees or warrantees
- Association memberships
- Special training and certifications
Authorized products and services: Thousands of dollars are spent promoting brand names. Hitchhike on that money by highlighting brand names you’re authorized to sell, service or repair.
Special Features: What separates you from the competition? The first question I ask a Yellow Pages advertiser is, “Why should someone call you instead of one of those other ads?” Often that gets me a blank stare, but eventually they come up with three to five things, the most important reasons why someone should do business with them instead of the competition.

Completeness of service: Yellow Pages readers are drawn to ads that offer exactly what they’re seeking as well as by ads the offer a full range of relevant products and services. Include anything that’s a significant part of your business or you think can become a significant part of your business.
Appropriate copy might include:
- The range or specialization of your products and services;
- Credit cards;
- Additional services that make doing business with your more appealing, e.g. free estimates, free consultations, evening appointments, insurance filing, valet parking, etc. etc.
Illustrations. The single easiest way to improve a mediocre ad is with a great illustration. If your picture isn’t worth a thousand words, find one that is. And make it large enough to generate the additional visibility your ad needs.
Location: Many people use the Yellow Pages to find a convenient address. And some former customers will only remember where you are not who you are. Make sure you’re easy to find. If necessary, include a line of directional copy: “Behind McDonald’s.” If your location is more complicated than that, consider including a map. As for your phone number, make sure it’s large enough so that no matter when potential customers decide they’ve read enough of your great selling copy and they’re ready to call, they can spot it immediately.

As Google says on its philosophy page, “Focus on the user and all else will follow.” Google wants webmasters to feel the same way — that if you build the best site possible, your good rankings will follow. This isn’t the answer that most webmasters want to hear. They want a few simple “tricks” that will rocket them to the top of the SERPs. Sorry, but it doesn’t work that way. Even if that were possible, twenty sites all employing the same tricks couldn’t all fit on the front page of Google.
